Every game master knows the moment: the players ask the dragon’s name and you have three seconds to answer. Keep the forge open in a tab.

Match the name to the encounter

  • Young dragons — use Short length: Ignax, Nyxmor, Durgar.
  • Adult dragons — Classic length with an epithet: Brontakon the Riven Ruin.
  • Ancient dragons — Epic length with the Ancient temperament: Thalas’elous, Eldest of the Sunken Halls.

Make the name do work

A dragon’s name is a clue. Let the root hint at its lair and the epithet hint at its weakness or its want.

Batch before the session

Before game night, forge a dozen names per element and keep the best in your hoard. The kindred-names row under each result gives you six alternatives at once — perfect for a dragon’s brood or rival clutchmates.
